Yuvraj Singh will be Back to Normal Condition in Couple of Months-Said Doctors
Yuvraj Singh’s response to chemotherapy has made doctors confident, that mediastinal seminoma which Yuvraj was diagnosed with, “will not come back” said Dr Nitesh Rohatgi, member of Yuvraj medical team.
The aggressive batsman had underwent three cycles of chemotherapy, the last one in hospital before being discharged, and is expected to return to India in the first half of April.
Dr. Nitesh Rohatgi, senior medical oncologist at Delhi’s Max Cancer Centre said in an interview, “Yuvraj diagnosed with a mediastinal Seminoma, a germ cell tumor between his lungs, has responded well to therapy. He has had the standard treatment for such tumors, which is three cycles of chemotherapy followed by a strict protocol based follow-up and we are cautiously confident that it will not come back.”
Doctors having a progressive assessment over the period of two months of chemotherapy treatment and has indicated the mass tumor finally shrunk. The cancer protein has come down faster than expected and both signs are reassuring that cancer should be out of his system.
Rohatgi also said, “All the side-effects he has had so far are reversible and we have seen signs of recovery between cycles of chemotherapy.” He also indicated that the chemotherapy has not irreversibly damaged his body.
However, Rohatgi hasn’t confirmed about the specific time frame for Yuvraj’s returning to full fitness. He said, “In our experience, mine from cases in the UK and Dr Einhorn’s from the US, patient get back to good normal activity in a month’s time. whether that also amounts to excellent training capabilities we will only find out in time. Yuvraj is strong minded, he shows sign of desperation to out- perform himself.”
Meanwhile, Yuvraj will remain in US for at least 2-3 weeks due to what Rohatgi call as “safety period” and to get him back to fitness regime and check-up routine.
