  • The board needs to think about how to handle injured players

    0

Despite the Kolkata Knight Riders saying that Gautam Gambhir will be looking to take his own decision on the participation in the CLT20, it is a surprise that it is not the BCCI who is getting involved in the decision-making of the injury problems around Gambhir.

Gambhir’s concussion was a serious enough injury and it should be the board’s prerogative to decide on who should be allowed to play in the domestic tournament and who should not be allowed to play – given that the players have signed the contract with the board.

Thus, it means that even if Gambhir is less than fully fit, and he decides to play on, the BCCI will not interfere in the matter and it will mean that the side will be looking to get him on board. What happens if then, the player gets injured again and misses the series against England and even the West Indies?

Doesn’t the board have any affinity towards international cricket? Doesn’t it have any kind of duties to protect its own players? Sad state of affairs this is.

  • Should Gautam Gambhir give Champions League T20 a miss?

    0

It will be interesting to see whether Gautam Gambhir does play for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Champions League T20 qualifiers. Gambhir had come back from the tour of England after he hurt his head while trying to catch Kevin Pietersen out and since then has been struggling with concussion.

However, given that the tournament begins from September 19, he will need to report to the camp by around September 15, which is around two weeks away. The big question is whether he will get fit enough by that time or whether he will risk aggravating an injury to himself.

Even in the IPL, Gambhir had played for the Knight Riders despite suffering from a shoulder injury and that had meant that he had had to miss the tour of the West Indies. Gambhir would know that if he were to repeat the same mistake again, there would be a huge backlash against him, and things could get interesting.

What do you think? Should Gambhir play in the CLT20?
